Terrific piece! I really relate. I did my undergrad in multimedia journalism ages ago, and knew even before I graduated that I didn’t want to become a fully-fledged journalist (I’m an extremely good student, but could never motivate myself to read the news, and thereby failed every single one of my news quizzes in my program). I dove into technology from the web development perspective and then eventually ended up at UX research, which is where my journalism trained me to be all along. When I finally did arrive, it felt like I was finally able to combine my creativity, people-focused orientation/drive, and problem-solving in the most rewarding way. Welcome to the world of UX research!
